We would like to give you a warm welcome to Lisbon and Portugal next July!
We are very pleased to be hosting the 25th ECVS annual scientific meeting in Lisbon where the twenty fifth anniversary of our college will be celebrated! This is a time and a great place to do it.
We are excited to be able to host this meeting at the Belém Cultural Centre (CCB), which is an impressive modern building and the main culture hub of the city. Belém is by the river and in the heart of Lisbon where a diversity of touristic and cultural attractions are located. It is also the home of the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art where you can see Lusitano horses performing daily.
The Scientific programme has been carefully tailored to match the occasion with a great mix of invited speakers and an exciting variety of free communication and poster sessions which will make this a real meeting of friends and science.
Lisbon is a fascinating and beautiful city! The international airport is located near the city centre; public transportation is excellent and taxis are affordable and will easily take you everywhere. You will have time to visit the city monuments, explore the different "bairros", relax by the river or take the train to the beach!! We strongly recommend you make a short holiday out of this trip before or after the meeting.
There are a variety of hotels within walking distance of the CCB and there is easy and regular transport from this part of town to the other busy areas. We recommend early booking of your room to avoid disappointment (Lisbon gets busy in the Summer!).
The closing dinner and party will be within the cloisters of the old royal palace in Terreiro do Paço where you will be able to enjoy the best of Portuguese food and wine as well as an ECVS performance especially put together for the occasion…..(you will need to attend to discover more but we can assure you, it will not disappoint).
We have also prepared a diverse and interesting partners’ programme for those interested to explore two main cultural sites near Lisbon: Sintra village is a UNESCO world heritage site and forms one of the most spectacular cultural sceneries in Europe full of castles and palaces that are so enchanting that they all seem to come straight from fantasy books. A visit to the coastal village of Cascais or a morning at Guincho beach are also programed to enthuse your family or friends to join us in Lisbon.
We aim to make our meeting and your trip as pleasant as possible. Please visit our ECVS website on a regular basis for changes and information - so stay tuned and get excited!

Sintra is one of Portugal's most beautiful destinations. You will take the bus directly to the stunning Pena Palace and get to know the luxurious gardens and the extravagant mixture of colors and stone cavings of this XIX century monument. Our trip will take you then to the lovely city center of Sintra for lunch and the visit of the National Palace of Sintra. Lunch, transportation, monuments entrance and guide are included.
Cascais is a charming old fishing village that has become a sophisticated town. There are small museums, cool gardens and a beautiful marina. It’s golden beaches attracts sun-worshipping holidaymakers that will come to splash in the ocean so don't expect to get much sand to yourself at the weekend. Instead, if you want to taste the ocean breeze and the massive atlantic waves you will love Guincho beach, situated on the westfard facing side of the Lisbon coastline. This will provide a remote and wild setting. Transportation and guide are included; lunch is optional (20€).
