Orthopaedic Surgeon Position(s)

Small animal

Expires: 21-10-2024

The Ralph Veterinary Referral Centre (Independent), Marlow, United Kingdom

The Ralph is the UK’s largest (~250 Ralphers) independent (non-corporate) multidisciplinary specialist referral centre in southeast England. We are looking for one or potentially two Orthopaedic surgeons to join our friendly, collaborative team.

At The Ralph our referral clinician team has been very stable across all our disciplines with low turnover. So we are not used to someone leaving! However, one of our Orthopaedic surgeons is returning to their home country. We will miss them dearly, yet we understand their reasons, and it is time to find their replacement.

We prefer a full-time appointment but are open to discussing different part-time working patterns. Applicants interested in both full-time and part-time positions are welcome to apply. We will consider diplomates and residency-trained board-eligible candidates. We anticipate a start date of December 2024, but we will be flexible for the right person. A second position starting in the Summer of 2025 may also be available; this remains to be determined.

When you join us, the Orthopaedic team will consist of one ECVS Diplomate and one ECVS residency-trained clinician. We also have a third-year resident, Surgery vet interns, and Soft Tissue surgeons.

You will have access to a full range of tools and technologies, ensuring the best outcomes for our patients and the highest standard of care. These include Arthrex TPLO sets, Synthes and Arthrex ORIF sets, an Arthrex HD arthroscopy tower, PAUL and CUE kits for the treatment of medial compartment disease, a Biomedtrix hip replacement set, and a PGR kit for the treatment of patella luxation.

At The Ralph, you will work closely with diplomates in all disciplines, including anaesthesia and analgesia, cardiology, dentistry, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology and soft tissue surgery. The surgery team has a wonderful, collaborative relationship with our well-established 24/7/365 diplomate-led ECC team, which provides a particularly diverse and exciting caseload through their dedicated dog and cat ICUs.

Our ideal candidate's winning traits include dedication to patients, a positive attitude toward teamwork, a willingness to teach, and a cheerful, friendly character.

We offer a competitive salary and other benefits package, including employee share options, a generous holiday and CPD allowance and private medical insurance.

Our senior clinician team works with a shared weekend on-call rota, supported by our resident and interns on their rota weekends. You will likely be on call 1:4 weekends.

Marlow is located on the River Thames between Henley and Windsor. This is a beautiful area with lovely walks, water-based activities and more. Our hospital is just off the A404 with easy access from the M4 and M40 motorways and close to London. Marlow is conveniently located only 25 minutes from Heathrow Airport, 45 minutes from Luton Airport and one hour from Gatwick or Stansted Airport. This location makes it very convenient for weekend getaways or our European colleagues to ‘pop back’ to their home countries to visit friends and family.

The Ralph workplace focuses on core values, culture, vision and mission. We emphasise kindness, compassion and empathy for all our communities. As an independent hospital, we have the freedom and flexibility to chart our course. We would love to hear from you if you want to know more.
