ECVS Residency In Small Animal Surgery At The Ralph Veterinary Referral Centre

Small animal

Expires: 15-06-2025

The Ralph Veterinary Referral Centre, Marlow, United Kingdom

The Ralph Veterinary Referral Centre is pleased to announce a position for an ECVS Resident in Surgery commencing later in 2025.

Our fantastic team consists of:

- Two ECVS Diplomate and one Residency-trained Soft Tissue Surgeons

- Three ECVS Diplomate Orthopaedic Surgeons

- Four Surgery Interns

- A  team of Theatre/Anaesthesia Nurses and a Surgery Patient Care Coordinator

This three-year ECVS Residency programme will be based at The Ralph, the UK’s largest independent (non-corporate) multidisciplinary specialist referral centre in southeast England, with ~250 Ralphers. Our busy caseload provides an excellent opportunity to be trained in a truly multidisciplinary referral centre. Particular strengths of our hospital include:

The Surgery Service sees a substantial, highly varied soft tissue and orthopaedic caseload.

A broad range of orthopaedic and soft tissue equipment to perform more specialised procedures (including THR, CUE, PGR,  PAUL, SUBS, and intrahepatic shunt occlusion).

Imaging facilities, including ultrasound, CT, fluoroscopy, and MRI, with ECVDI Diplomates on-site.

A dedicated ICU (separate for dogs and cats) with an established Diplomate-led Emergency and Critical Care team and a vast range of challenging critical cases.

All our clinical services are Diplomate-led and include Anaesthesia and Analgesia, Cardiology, Dentistry, Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Oncology, Ophthalmology, and Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation.  The Surgery team works closely with all services to provide excellent patient care. This will expose you to a wide range of cases with specialist support for complex, multidisciplinary cases.

Rotations through our Neurology and Neurosurgery service are part of the Residency programme.

The Ralph workplace focuses on core values, culture, vision and mission. We emphasise kindness, compassion and empathy for all our communities.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, organised and dedicated. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to work flexibly in a demanding referral hospital environment. Our passionate and very experienced team will provide support and teaching (both formal, scheduled teaching and teaching in clinics). You will receive pastoral support from within your service, our In-Hospital Counsellor, our Resident and Vet Intern Support Officers, and others. You will have regular check-ins and feedback opportunities.

Marlow is located on the River Thames between Henley and Windsor. This is a beautiful area with lovely walks, water-based activities and more. Our hospital is just off the A404 with easy access from the M4 and M40 motorways and close to London. Marlow is conveniently located only 25 minutes from Heathrow Airport, 45 minutes from Luton Airport and one hour from Gatwick or Stansted Airport. This location makes it very convenient for weekend getaways or our European colleagues to ‘pop back’ to their home countries to visit friends and family.

Candidate requirements:

- You must be an MRCVS; ideally, you will already be eligible to work in the United Kingdom. Visa sponsorship may be available. Don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss this further.

- As per ECVS Pre-Residency requirements, you must have done at least a one-year rotating internship or have at least two years of experience in primary care general practice.

- An additional specialised internship in surgery is desirable but not essential.

- Clinical experience in primary care practice is desirable.

For more information on the position, please contact Dani McCready (Head of Surgery) at [email protected] in the first instance on an informal basis.
