Welcome to European College of Veterinary Surgeons Information Centre

The European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) is recognised throughout the veterinary profession for its progressive leadership, innovative programmes in continuing education and for the high standard of professional excellence of its members, the Diplomates. They underwent extensive well-defined training in either Large or Small animal surgery. This training was supervised by senior veterinary surgery specialists e.g. other Diplomates or Professors of Surgery at different Universities. Prior to be able to sit for the examination, publications had to be published in major veterinary journals with referee system (that means, that the papers were evaluated by other specialists in the particular field and accepted for publication). Every Diplomate has passed an in-depth examination (no "Grandfather - status) which lasted several days. After completing the training and passing the examination, the Diplomate status is approved by the Board of Regents.

The demanding process of board certification assures quality service to the European public and their animals, which are treated by true specialists. The ECVS Diplomates strive for the utmost well-being of their patients and complete satisfaction of their clients.

ECVS is represented also on the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation, which represents the umbrella association of all recognised European Veterinary Colleges.

ECVS is closely associated with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, the ACVS, which actually served as model for its organisation.
